Movies
I love movies for many reasons, and as a screenwriter I watch them on many levels. This was a hard list to make. I have over 550 DVDs and VHS tapes in my collection, and it was tough to pick. I could easily list another twenty. (The newest addition to this list: Shane Black's insanely funny Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.) Here is my entire movie collection.

Books
Though I'm already published, with a novel on the way and working on a new draft of my autobiography, I should be a lot more well-read than I am. Given all of the great things I've read and can't remember, I've confined this list to what I own. This was even a harder list to pick, especially since I have both fiction and non-fiction to consider. These are not presented in any particular order.

2. The Key, Cheri Huber/Zen Buddhist Center
3. Myth of the Goddess, Baring & Cashford

My Cats
"Dogs have owners, cats have staff"
I thank the Goddess for these furry little angels that She sent to me. They were homeless when I adopted them, and they bring such joy to my life. Mindle, the black cat, is the gregarious one who will pester you for attention the moment you sit on the sofa. He gets under the covers with me when I sleep, loves to play with the water dripping from the tub faucet and plays "fetch" with a ball of paper. He's also very adept at opening sliding closet and shower doors.
Charlie was homeless a lot longer, and was obviously maltreated. Love and caring have tamed him into a lap cat. He is still wary of visitors though, unless he knows them. When he's relaxed you can almost hear his purr across the room, and he has a dozen different meows. He even has a "quiet" meow for when I'm still in bed and waking up. He's very soft and fluffy.
My kitties photograph nicely.
Instrumental Rock Guitar
Long before I learned to play guitar, I loved to listen. As a teen, the sound of rock guitar connected with me in a way that nothing has since. A killer guitar solo is more exciting that Six Flags' hairiest rollercoaster, and a soulful guitar melody can make me weep at its beauty. These are my most favorite players who continue to excite and move me even today. I never recovered my skill when I went lefty, but I get to live it vicariously.
Life, the Universe and Everything (i.e. "Spirituality")
For years the only time I said "God" was immediately followed by the words "damn it!" I was known the pray from time to time, but only after I'd made a drug buy and (A) it was from a total stranger and I worried I might have been sold roofing tar, or (B) the cops slowed down to cruise me as I walked back home to do the drugs I just bought. Sixteen years later I began to believe that some Power must have worked overtime watching my butt; there's no other way I could have survive my past. To be honest I know very little about this Power, except that I trust Her (I like to personalize it). Here are a few words I've wrote and will continue to add to.
Christine Beatty on Sexwork
As a former sexworker I have strong opinions on the topic, as well as what it meant to me at the time and how I look back on it now. It had its upsides and downsides, and I don't like some of the ways it changed me. It's what I was stuck with at the time, and I can't use the word regret and mean it. And I believe it is a professional choice that society should not limit for the women and men who are emotionally and medically capable of the work. There are far more important issues on which to spend law enforcement money on than policing morals.
